Customs function in business is the focus of this course, which is Module 1 of the extensive Customs clearance and trade compliance in the EU training. The lessons of this course will give you a better understanding of what customs mean for business. You will then learn how the customs function interacts with internal (e.g., Supply chain, Transportation, Finance, Legal, Manufacturing, R&D departments) and external (e.g., supplier, customs agent, freight forwarder, authorities) stakeholders to form the heart of the network that will ensure the smooth and compliant movement of goods across borders.

Lessons

The course consists of four video lessons:

  1. An introduction to customs
  2. What does it mean for businesses?
  3. Mini case study
  4. Customs roles within businesses. In this lesson, a task is provided to research customs roles

After watching the videos and doing the task, please take the quiz and then finalise the module by doing the readings (see in Resources) - after purchasing the course, you will be given access to the articles on the platform.

Outcome

At the end of the module, you should:

  • Have a better understanding what customs means and what your role is as a customs practitioner within a business;
  • Be more aware of the intricacies of trading across borders;
  • Remember that customs is cross-functional within an organization.

After successfully completing the quiz (more than 60% of the answers should be correct), you will receive a certificate of completion.

Time

Please plan to dedicate around 1 hour to complete this course.

Legal rules evolve and their interpretation changes. Thus, continuous learning is very important when it comes to managing risks.

NOCA's Bulgarian Green Corridors project
03-09-2024

The rapid crossing of land borders for imported and exported goods (including for intra-EU movements)would help to take the operation of international supply chains to a new level. Timely delivery of goods is much more than a fulfilment of trade commitments in order to build fair and long-term business partnerships. The COVID-19 health crisis and the still-unfolding war in Ukraine serve as reminders that timely delivery of goods can be vital for people's lives and health. Furthermore, delays at borders resulting from a number of customs and non-customs checks are an administrative burden.

Top five challenges for European customs
28-08-2024

Someone recently asked me what are the current top challenges for customs in Europe. The article is an attempt to summarise the answer to this question. These are the five issues that, in my opinion, are likely to impact the customs industry in the upcoming months and years. Some are more across-the-board and some are a bit more niche and local. The article comes from the author’s personal experience of working in the industry and across the private and public sectors and is therefore a personal perspective. By no means an exhaustive list.
