This is the record of the 'Global vebinar 2023: Journals on Customs', which took place on 24.10.2023. The speakers:

  • Prof Dr Sandra Rinnert, Germany, one of the editors of AW-Prax, which is the most widely circulated journal for customs and foreign trade law in German language. Topic: Compliance and sustainability with a focus on CBAM, deforestation and corporate due diligence in the supply chain.
  • Laure Tempier, Belgium, the editor of WCO News magazine, which is distributed free of charge in English and in French languages. Topic: Data quality.
  • Jeffrey L. Snyder, the USA, the editor of Global Trade and Customs Journal, which is ideal for trade and customs lawyers as well as other professionals with an interest in staying ahead of legal and compliance-based developments in the field. Topic: Customs classification and export controls.
  • Enrika Naujoke, Lithuania, one of the editors of Customs Compliance & Risk Management journal, a bimonthly online journal for customs practitioners in Europe. Topic: EU Customs Reform.

The United States is strengthening the role of customs brokers as professionals by introducing a professional development requirement (which will come into force on 24 July 2023), stressing that … this will help improve trade compliance and revenue protection and allow brokers to act as an additional layer of security to prevent illicit goods from entering US commerce. In the meantime, EU customs brokers fear that the EU Customs Reform and the draft new Customs Code could signal the end of their profession.
